Cable & Wireless Launches WebReady

Cable & Wireless USA Tuesday launched WebReady, an end-to-end e-business solution for small and medium-sized businesses.

The solution, which combines Cable & Wireless's high-speed Internet access with IBM hardware and software, seeks to move more business customers onto the Web while reducing operating costs.

"Small and medium-sized business are the fastest growing market today, and these businesses are increasingly in need of scalable, affordable, out-of-the box solutions in order to compete in the global marketplace," said Denny Matteucci, Cable & Wireless USA's chief executive officer.

WebReady provides Cable & Wireless connectivity at up to 1.5 megabits per second, e-mail and Web development software running on an IBM Netfinity Server and with a Cisco router and firewall. Microsoft's NT software is also included.

WebReady connects businesses with Cable & Wireless's high-speed access to its nationwide OC-48 Internet network. Cable & Wireless will also source and provide support for the entire solution.

Cable & Wireless plans to bring additional IBM-supported "out-of-the-box" e-business solutions to the market, including e-commerce solutions.

Cable & Wireless recently announced plans to invest $670 million over two years in building a nationwide OC-192 Internet network in the U.S.
