Dynamic Healthcare Technologies Inc. said it plans to launch a new electronic commerce product and services initiative using the Internet to provide professionals with secure, low-cost access to medical and clinical information.
Working in conjunction with Microsoft Consulting Services - Healthcare, Dynamic has developed Dynamic E-Net, which will let healthcare providers create their own portal and set up a secure, virtual private network so physicians, clinicians and insurers with the proper authorization can use a standard Web browser and any Internet-connected device to get to the specific information they need.
The initiative, which includes a fee-based e-commerce model, will be implemented in several phases, the company said. The first phase extends the Web-enabling capability of Dynamic WebSight, a teleradiology application, throughout Dynamic's product lines, including anatomic pathology, health information management, laboratory, radiology and surgical services. WebSight is currently part of Dynamic PACSPlus, a picture archiving and communication system (PACS) that integrates a patient's information and imaging history with their corresponding radiology images.
Dynamic E-Net will go into production at customer sites using Dynamic's document management, pathology and radiology information systems in the third and fourth quarters of 1999. In the second phase of the initiative, the company will extend the E-Net model into other locations.
"Dynamic's approach closely parallels Microsoft's Knowledge Management (KM) strategy for removing barriers between information and knowledge workers. This project positions Dynamic to enable health care organizations to become content providers in the electronic commerce arena," said John Carpenter, managing consultant for Microsoft Consulting Services - Healthcare.
In a later phase, the company is examining the potential of offering this new methodology to healthcare organizations as a service for managing and moving information across medical enterprise sites and/or to affiliated sites outside the walls of the organization on a transactional fee basis.
Dynamic Healthcare Technologies' product line, DynamicVision, is a suite of image, voice and Web-enabled systems for anatomic pathology, radiology, laboratory, surgical services and health information management.
