Ken Wirt, the former Diamond Multimedia executive who brought the Rio portable MP3 player to market, launched his new company's site this month, Riffage.com, a music service with a selection of authorized digital music for purchase by download.
Aimed at wired musicians and fans, Riffage.com said it combines online community, communications and e-commerce.
Riffage carries music that traditional music stores do not, such as new indie and niche artists. The vision behind Riffage.com is to provide bands with an exciting avenue to distribute their music and build a fan base, the company said.
Riffage said it charges only 15 percent of the revenues that bands earn as opposed to the industry standard of 50 percent.
