eToys Adds Books

Taking a page from Amazon.com's play book, eToys Inc. Monday announced plans to add books to its product lineup.

The move is the latest by the company to expand beyond children's toys. Like other leading Internet retailers, eToys has continually expanded its product lineup. The company launched by offering children's toys. It then expanded to selling software, videos, music, video games and other baby-oriented products.

eToys will carry more than 80,000 children's books which will be organized by age, character, series, subject and author. Author interviews and autographed books from leading children's authors will also be available.

"As we've done in our other six categories, our focus on kids enabled us to design the eToys' bookstore from the ground up to be the best place to buy books for kids," said Toby Lenk, eToys' president and chief executive officer.

The site will also feature book recommendations.
