Another Entrant in Online Grocery Wars

A Bellevue, WA company is planning to launch an online grocery service to serve the Seattle area early this year.

Called HomeGrocer.com, the service claims it will be the first online grocery shopping and home delivery service in the Puget Sound area, and one of the few with free deliveries for orders more than $75.

The company said it plans to expand nationally, which would make it a competitor to more established firms such as Peapod and NetGrocer.

Prices will be comparable to those of the traditional supermarket. The company said it can afford to do this by stocking and delivering from its own Bellevue warehouse.

Consumers can specify scheduled deliveries within a 90-minute window.

HomeGrocer.com offers a shopper's site without advertising and provides a brand-neutral "Compare and Contrast" guide for selecting products. This feature automatically prepares comparisons by nutritional content, packaging type, or price.
