Office Depot Opens Online Doors

Delray Beach, FL-based Office Depot, which claims to be the world's largest office products retailing chain, is opening its first Web store.

The officedepot.com, site will be an extension of Office Depot's $6.7 billion store and delivery business, the company said.

The store will target the small and home-based business sector--currently the fastest-growing business segment and leading source of new jobs, the company said. It will offer the same benefits as Office Depot brick and mortar stores, including the well-received 155% competitive price guarantee and guaranteed next day delivery to 95% of the U.S. at no charge for orders over $50, as well as new features such as online order tracking in real time.

officedepot.com will include a site search engine as well as information and visuals on Office Depot's selection of office products, including hardware, software, and furniture.

Office cubicle-guru and Office Depot spokesman Dilbert and his friends assist users to navigate the site, adding a touch of humor.

Officedepot.com uses the latest Microsoft electronic commerce software including Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS), Transaction Server, and SQL Server. The site's systems architecture enables officedepot.com to handle 300,000 orders daily, the company said.
