Ten More Companies Join Global eCommerce Forum

Hewlett-Packard and VeriFone announced this week the addition of 10 members to the Global eCommerce Forum.

The new members--Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Diebold Inc., Global Payment Systems, GTE Internetworking, MasterCard International, Network for Electronic Transfers (Singapore) Pte. Ltd., (NETS), NOVUS Services Inc., Security First Technologies Inc., (S1), Stratus Computer Inc. and VeriSign Inc.--bring total membership of the international forum to 20 organizations.

The group launched three working groups, whose charter will be to initiate projects and formalize industry positions to address three issues it has identified as critical for the expansion of electronic commerce: infrastructure development, system interoperability and electronic-commerce adoption and education.

The Global eCommerce Forum--previously named First Global Commerce--was formed last December to serve as a leader in providing a united voice for defining and driving electronic commerce endeavors. The Partner Management Team, consisting of EDS, HP and VeriFone will provide general program management and facilitate actions among the members.

"The membership intends to serve as a leading entity to provide a unified voice for defining and driving electronic commerce," said HP's Debra Miele, director of the Global eCommerce Forum. "We expect our work to influence significantly offerings in the electronic commerce marketplace."
