AOL Interactive Names VP of Programming, Commerce

AOL Interactive Services Inc., the Internet online services division of America Online, named Jonathan Sacks as senior vice president of programming operations.

Sacks will oversee all programming and commerce operations for AOL Interactive Services, which oversees the flagship America Online service, the AOL.com Web site and AOL Instant Messenger. He will report to Barry Schuler, president of AOL Interactive Services.

Sacks comes to AOL Interactive Services from the Hub, a joint venture of AOL and New Line Cinema, where he served as president. At the Hub, Sacks led the production of the original programming site for young adults focused on music and entertainment.

Previously, in a joint venture with Newsweek, Sacks was the founder and CEO of VirtualCity Magazine, the first consumer magazine about interactive technology, providing a guide to sites and services on the Internet, and served as an editor, publisher and columnist for a range of publications focused on computing and the interactive industry.

Sacks served from 1991 to 1994 as publisher of PC Computing and Corporate Computing magazines, and from 1985 to 1991 at International Data Group, he was editor-in-chief and associate publisher of InfoWorld magazine, president and founder of IDG Books Worldwide, and CEO and publisher of InfoWorld Publishing Co.
