HP Launches Security Solutions Program

Hewlett-Packard Co. launched an Internet-security solutions operation called the Praesidium partner program, designed to protect electronic-business applications for new and existing customers.

It provides a Web-based mechanism for easy deployment of integrated security solutions, the company said.

The first component, HP VirtualVault partner program, works to provide new and existing customers with a source for securely supported applications. These apps are trusted versions of the software vendor's standard application front end, configured through a certification process to use HP VirtualVault's strong security platform to the fullest advantage. The next component of the Praesidium program is scheduled to be introduced next quarter.

HP VirtualVault provides maximum security for browser-based applications, the company said. It is designed to provide a secure application front end for Internet-enabled business applications, such as electronic commerce, banking and confidential electronic collaboration. Pricing was not disclosed.

HP said it developed a Praesidium partner Web site, which provides the tools and information needed to install the applications, allowing customers to integrate VirtualVault into their existing electronic- business frameworks.

The HP security Web site offers hot links to solution providers' Web sites, as well as access to presentations, demos and other information about HP Praesidium products, services and programs, the company said.

"We will continue to add more applications to the Web site, providing a wide range of secure electronic-business solutions for our customers," said Roberto Medrano, general manager of HP's Internet Security Operation.

The first group of partners to offer applications through the Praesidium program includes: c2Net, with StrongHold, a secure, full-strength Apache-based Web server; NetDynamics, with NetDynamics 4.0 enterprise network application platform; GTE CyberTrust, with GTE Global Provider CA and GTE Enterprise Provider CA; and OpenConnect, with WebConnect legacy access system.

Separately, H-P said that its subsidiaries VeriFone Inc. and Nobil IT are collaborating to offer secure Internet payment solutions to the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC).

Nobil IT in Toronto, an electronic-commerce services provider, was chosen earlier this year to provide solutions to CIBC, including VeriFone Internet payment solutions.
