Amazon.com to Locate in ModaCAD's Virtual Shopping Mall

ModaCAD Inc. said it signed online book and music store Amazon.com to participate in the virtual fashion mall that the company is developing.

Scheduled to be launched this summer, the mall is being co-developed with Intel Corp. and is to be published by Sierra Home, a division of Sierra On-Line Inc., a subsidiary of Cendant Software Corp.

Financial terms of the deal with Amazon.com were not disclosed.

ModaCAD's mall will feature a photo-realistic 3-D rendered virtual shopping experience that will enable consumers to experiment with creating a complete wardrobe of clothing, shoes and accessories in a personalized interactive environment.

Amazon.com will be one of the only non-fashion retailers showcased and will feature music and book highlights linking directly into key sections within the Amazon.com site.

Amazon.com's catalog also will include ModaCAD's software, to access the virtual mall from the Amazon.com site. Under the agreement, ModaCAD will share in the proceeds generated by users who connect to Amazon.com through ModaCAD's mall.

"Our virtual shopping experience wouldn't be complete without the presence of an established retailer of books and music," said Joyce Freedman, ModaCAD's CEO. "Our goal is to create as successful an e-commerce avenue for fashion as Amazon.com has done for books and music online."

"Young women constitute an important consumer group and are frequent visitors to the Amazon.com site," said Shawn Haynes, group product manager for Amazon.com. "We believe ModaCAD and Intel's co-developed virtual shopping experience represents yet another conduit to further the Amazon.com brand."
