barnesandnoble.com announced a strategic partnership with e-commerce firm RoweCom in a move aimed at delivering business-to-business solutions for purchasing, acquiring and managing knowledge resources.
The companies said their respective resources will be combined to deliver a single Web-based service accessible through any standard Web browser.
RoweCom said its knowledge Store (kStore) service provides access to over 42,000 magazines and newspapers from over 13,000 publishers, and barnesandnoble.com oversees a database of millions of books.
Under terms of the agreement, barnesandnoble.com said it will provide a Web-based interface where companies will have access to reporting options including daily sales, product activity, and traffic figures. Secure electronic transactions, search capabilities, and e-mail confirmation of order placement and shipping will also be supported.
"As individuals and organizations receive information from a growing number of sources, they increasingly require a single portal to acquire and manage it," said Dr. Richard Rowe, RoweCom CEO and president. "Both RoweCom and barnesandnoble.com have demonstrated expertise in delivering commerce services, and the combination of the two services raises the bar for corporate knowledge acquisition and management."
