Sterling Commerce Updates CONNECT:Remote

E-commerce and systems management firm Sterling Commerce Inc. released CONNECT:Remote 3.3, the latest version of its remote systems management solution.

The version provides a software solution for turning remote PCs into fully managed clients. Systems administrators can now more effectively manage large numbers of remote and mobile systems, resulting in a significant decrease in support costs and an increase in productivity, Sterling said.

Version 3.3 includes upgrades to each component module of CONNECT:Remote's Managed Client, client support for important versions of UNIX and IBM operating systems and management console integration with Microsoft's SMS and Tivoli's TME/10, two leading LAN-based systems management products.

"With the number of workers who are only intermittently connected to an enterprise growing to around 50% of the workforce by the year 2000, system administrators are scrambling to find ways to increase control of remote systems," said Corey Smith, president of Sterling Commerce's Managed Systems Division. "This newest version of CONNECT:Remote gives an administrator all the tools to manage remote systems, always keeping them in the optimal state for maximum performance and productivity."

CONNECT: Remote 3.3 runs in the Microsoft Windows environment and is available for $375 per client. CONNECT: Remote Software Manager, Inventory Manager, AntiVirus Manager and Backup Manager are also individually available, ranging in price from $50 to $75 per client. For Remote customers, upgrades are $195 per client. CONNECT:Remote for Tivoli ranges in price from $2,750 to $30,000 depending on server capacity. Introductory pricing for CONNECT:Remote Manager for Microsoft SMS is $1,500 per server.
