iPass, the clearinghouse for global roaming services on the Internet, has added another 15 Internet service providers partners in Europe, bringing its European total to 60 and its world total to over 500 partners with more than 3,000 Points of Presence.

Among the new European partners in the iPass service are the UK-based ISPs Direct Connection and Cerbernet. The others are: telecom.at (Austria), Netway (Austria), magnet/Internet at Work (Austria), Netwing (Austria), Skima Hf (Iceland), Margmidlun Hf (Iceland), SkyLink (Italy), Master Web (Italy), Kemmunet (Malta), World Access (Netherlands), Servicom (Spain), Bahnholf Internet (Sweden) and Swisscom's Blue Window (Switzerland) .

"We are seeing a dramatic increase in the use of the Internet for business purposes in Europe," said Brian MacDonald, iPass vice president of market development for Europe.

"What was moderate growth is becoming much more rapid, driven by an increase in Internet-based applications such as using virtual private network (VPN) technologies for remote network access. We look forward to working with these new ISP partners as well as expanding our relationships with the top telecommunications providers in the region."

Users who subscribe to an ISP belonging to the iPass service can gain ready local access to the Internet when they travel to another country that has an iPass ISP partner. Eighteen countries in Europe and 150 countries worldwide now have ISPs who belong to the scheme.

According to iPass, a key benefit to users is the convenience of retaining a single user name and password, no matter where they are in the iPass serviced countries. The clearinghouse platform that makes the service possible also enables IP telephony, IP fax and other emerging Internet-based services.
