Netscape Updates E-Commerce Applications

Netscape Communications Corp. Monday released a new version of its Commerce Exchange suite of e-commerce applications designed to help businesses manage trading processes and to connect with the business systems of partners over the Internet and intranets.

Commerce Exchange also enables a company to host online trading sites with partners of any size and supports a wide range of data formats and protocols.

"The Commerce Exchange solution provides the foundation of Netscape's entire suite of packaged electronic commerce applications," said Steve Savignano, senior vice president and general manager of Netscape's applications product division.

Included in the new Commerce Exchange suite are Netscape ECXpert 2.0, ECXpert Enterprise 2.0 and Netscape Trading Xpert 2.0. Trading Xpert 2.0 is designed to help companies host online trading communities.

ECXpert 2.0 allows companies to automate business process over intranets and extranets. The newest version allows companies to incorporate electronic data interchange, or EDI, which allows companies to send data between trading partners and customers.

ECXpert Enterprises 2.0 enables customers to incorporate existing applications and systems into Commerce Exchange. It interfaces with packages from a number of leading vendors, including Germany's SAP and Oracle Corp.

Trading Xpert 2.0 includes a flexible interface for communicating with trading partners, allowing companies to access multiple applications and data sources. It also enables companies to give their trading partners instant access to documents and to track the status of those documents. It contains pre-packaged templates for standard EDI transactions and forms, such as purchase orders, purchase order acknowledgements and invoices.
