Music Choice Goes For Pay Streaming

Music Choice Tuesday launched a subscription-based section on its Web site. The move comes right on the heels of MP3.com's plan to try a pay-to-listen model.

For an annual subscription fee of $4.99, visitors to MusicChoice.com will have access to Backstage Pass, which provides channels of streaming music; archived shows previously heard only on the Showcase I channel; archives of Music Choice OnStage concert events; exclsive artist chats and promotional offerings, such as digital downloads and member-only contests.

"The site is attempting to generate revenue from its Web content. "The promise of free content can only last so long," said Dave Del Beccaro, president and chief executive officer. "This is a viable business model that all sites will have to implement eventually in order to become profitable.

"Backstage Pass reflects our renewed commitment to the content of MusicChoice.com and we look forward to adding additional features to the site in the near future," he said.
