iPlanet Adds Customers, Partners for Portal Server

Sun-Netscape Alliance company iPlanet E-Commerce Solutions signed a slew of companies as customers and partners for its scaleable portal platform, which will be available at the end of May.

CSC, CUseeMe Networks, iSyndicate, Lucent Technologies Enterprise Networks Group, and TNT Vacations all have agreed to use the iPlanet Portal Server to build advanced business-to-business e-commerce marketplaces, digital telecommunications networks, content syndication services, marketplace exchanges and other strategic portal-based solutions.

iPlanet says its Portal Server provides the membership management, personalization, aggregation, security and integration services needed for today's demanding e-commerce portals, both B2B and B2C.

The Portal Server platform also lets users plug in products from other portal software vendors, including Actuate, E.piphany, grapeVINE, Hyperion, Interwoven, iSyndicate, Lucent Technologies Enterprise Networks Group, Macromedia, NetGenesis and Net Perceptions.

iPlanet also said it is working with content provider iSyndicate to integrate a more complete content solution with the Portal Server, including iSyndicate's selection of written, graphical, audio and video content from more than 850 top sources.

Lucent Technologies Enterprise Networks Group also is working with iPlanet. "The integration of our www.messenger and DEFINITY AnyWhere applications with the iPlanet Portal Server allows our enterprise customers to leverage the power of their voice and data communications networks through an integrated portal solution," said P.J. Conger, senior offer manager, Lucent Technologies Enterprise Networks.

iPlanet Portal Server ships with the iPlanet Web Server and iPlanet Directory Server and is priced at $25,000 per CPU (open access) and $90,000 per CPU (secure access).

iPlanet E-Commerce Solutions, a Sun-Netscape Alliance, was established in March 1999 by America Online and Sun Microsystems Inc. to provide e-commerce solutions.
