A Guiding Greenlight

Aiming to turn virtual tire kickers into informed online buyers, Amazon.com and its car information and sales site partner Greenlight.com have produced a step-by-step guide for researching, financing and buying a car over the Net.

The free resource is called the Bumper-to-Bumper guide, and is available here by looking under "More to Explore."

New car shoppers can also order a printed version by sending an e-mail request with their name and address to howto@greenlight.com or by calling 800/680-0402.

"We recognize that the Internet puts consumers in the driver's seat," said Lisa Gevelber, director of brand marketing at Greenlight.com. "By offering the Bumper-to-Bumper guide, we are further empowering consumers to make informed decisions."

And clearly the companies are hoping that an informed decision might be to buy a car through Amazon and/or Greenlight, which, like a lot of car sales sites, allows consumers to compare cars side-by-side, customize a car with the desired options and obtain an upfront price.

Most car sites also provide financing services and connect consumers to a network of local dealers for service and support after the sale.

Greenlight.com, which competes against a plethora of auto sales sites, also provides a dedicated live account manager and support from a network of local dealers. Greenlight.com is available in 32 markets, including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.
