InfoSpace.com Announces ActiveShopper Commerce Solution

Redmond, WA-based InfoSpace.com, a provider of private label solutions for content and commerce, this week launched ActiveShopper, an integrated commerce solution.

ActiveShopper is designed to change the way people shop on the Internet by providing integrated services that offer shoppers tools to research and buy a product in one place.

The app provides the ability to search offline catalogs, online stores, catalogs, and auction sites as well as find product reviews, discussion groups, and competitive prices. InfoSpace.com said it expects to launch this solution in the first half of 1999 and is currently in an internal pilot program with Lycos, CMP Media, Xoom.com, TechWave and Catalog City.

ActiveShopper is a private label commerce solution for any Internet portal, destination site or Internet appliance. It will contain thousands of products from hundreds of merchants and can support millions of queries, InfoSpace.com said. The company said it will tightly integrate ActiveShopper into its current offerings and will make the service immediately available to its network of more than 1,500 affiliate Web sites.

"Today, shoppers on the Internet are forced to go to many different sites to get the information they need to research and buy a product, which can be very frustrating," said Naveen Jain, chairman and CEO of InfoSpace.com. "We are leveraging the leadership and strength we have in aggregating and integrating content and extending that to the commerce area. Now, our affiliates can offer their users an integrated commerce solution, as they do now with our content solution."

Initial product categories to be included in the ActiveShopper service are Apparel, Books and Literature, Communications, Computer Hardware, Computer Software, Computer and Video Games, Consumer Electronics, Flowers and Cards, Gifts and Candy, Home and Garden, Movies, Video and DVDs, Music, Office Supplies and Equipment, and Toys and Games.
