Travelocity Heads North

As the online travel industry grows in the United States, The Sabre Group Thursday set its sights on Canada, launching a Canadian version of its Travelocity site.

Like its American counterpart, the site allows users to book flights and rental cars and provides localized travel planning news. Travelocity.ca is targeted specifically toward Canadians, offering special promotions, as well as packages to vacation spots popular with Canadian travellers and bi-lingual customer support, operated by Rider-BTI Travel Group.

"With an estimated 7.3 million Internet users and plans to be the most wired nation by the year 2000, Canada is a prime location for the expansion of our leading travel site," said Terrell Jones, president of Travelocity.com.

"Launching Travelocity.ca allows us to deliver online travel services, rich with Canadian-focused content and homepage, to one of our most important markets."
