Marimba Updates Castanet

Internet software firm Marimba Inc. Wednesday released the latest version of its Castanet product suite, which includes improved security features and a Japanese version.

Castanet is an enterprise solution designed to provide infrastructure by which companies can distribute, update, and manage applications and related data over corporate intranets, extranets, and the Internet.

Version 4.0.1 includes 128-bit SSL encryption security that authenticates users, verifies application authenticity, and helps protect the integrity and confidentiality of data. The product also offers support for HP-UX and IBM AIX platforms in addition to its previously supported Sun Solaris, Windows NT, and Windows 95/98 platforms.

The company has also revised its UpdateNow and PublishNow Software Development Kits (SDKs). The SDKs are comprised of a set of libraries and application programming interfaces (APIs) that are made to enable developers to embed Castanet functionality directly into their applications.

A Japanese-language local version of Castanet is also currently available, the firm said. It is part of the company's strategy to be a global provider of enterprise solutions, Marimba said.

"These new capabilities help organizations to automate and simplify the management of e-business applications worldwide," the firm said in a statement.

U.S. list pricing for a basic Castanet deployment starts at $40,000.
