HP Unveils Itanium 2 Servers, Workstations

HP Monday raised the curtain on a new portfolio of Intel Itanium 2-based servers and workstations.

The systems, which support HP-UX, Microsoft Windows and Linux environments, are built around the HP Scalable Processor zx1 Chipset, a modular 3-chip solution which promises high-bandwidth and low-latency.

The new additions to HP's portfolio include:

  • HP Workstation zx2000, an Itanium 2-based 900 MHz uni-processor workstation with 2D and 3D AGP graphics with an estimated U.S. street price of $4,500.
  • HP Workstation zx6000, available as a uni- or dual-processor 900 MHz or 1 GHz workstation with 2D and 3D AGP graphics at an estimated U.S. street price of $6,400.
  • HP Server rx2600, supporting up to 2 processors, 900 MHz and 1 GHz, at an estimated U.S. street price of $7,300.
  • HP Server rx5670, a four-way entry-level server supporting up to 4 processors, 900 MHz and 1 GHz, at an estimated U.S. street price of $23,400. It also allows for in-box upgrades to the Intel Itanium architecture from an existing RISC server.

HP added that its Itanium 2-based portfolio also includes an array of integrated systems and services management solutions to allow customers to monitor, deploy and provision systems, and also to enable service creation, assurance and usage for their customers. Additionally, HP's portfolio includes a suite of high-availability solutions to ensure data integrity and protect applications and environments against downtime.

The company also noted that it is creating Itanium 2-based development reference platforms in collaboration with Intel. The reference platforms consist of HP's Itanium 2-based servers and software development tools for ISVs.
