Allaire Announces Free Edition of ColdFusion Server

Allaire Corp. Tuesday unveiled ColdFusion Express, a free limited functionality edition of its enterprise Web application server.

ColdFusion Express is designed for HTML developers and desktop database developers building basic Web applications on corporate intranets. For projects that need to scale, ColdFusion Express applications can be upgraded to an advanced edition of ColdFusion Server.

ColdFusion Express can assist in the creation of database-driven reports, simple product catalogs, guest books, registration forms, employee directories or other basic Web applications. It uses the same tag-based server scripting language as the full version, ColdFusion Studio.

ColdFusion Express supports connectivity to desktop databases such as Microsoft Access and Borland dBase. It offers browser- based administration and integration with the Windows NT performance monitor. The ColdFusion Express application server is designed to work with Allaire's integrated Web development environment, HomeSite.

ColdFusion Express is currently available as an open beta. The final release will be available electronically for free from the Allaire Web site in mid- July. ColdFusion Express runs on Windows 95/98 and Windows NT 4.0. Advanced versions of ColdFusion Server are available for Solaris and HP-UX. More information about ColdFusion Express is available on the Allaire Web site.
