Infoseek Updates Ultraseek Server for Intranets

Infoseek Corp. this week rolled out version 3.1 of its Ultraseek Server, a search application for corporate intranets, enterprise portals and external Web sites.

New to the application is support for Extensible Markup Language (XML) documents, as well as third party search access to documents hosted by Microsoft Exchange, a popular enterprise messaging, mail and groupware system.

Other new features include the ability to index and search secure documents protected by Windows NT Challenge/Response, integration of advertising servers from NetGravity and Engage/Accipiter and the addition of a customizable thesaurus.

"Ultraseek Server 3.1 reflects our ability to stay focused on our customers' needs while keeping ahead of the technology curve," said Andrew Feit, vice president and general manager of Infoseek Software.

"Ultraseek is clearly leading the search application market with its XML capabilities, along with other new, powerful features for growing enterprise intranets and corporate portals. While the enterprise market is in the early phase of implementing XML, many customers are moving quickly in that direction and we will be ready when they do."

Ultraseek Server 3.1 is available immediately for downloading for Windows NT, Sun Solaris and Linux operating systems. Pricing starts at $995 for 1,000-document sites and $4,995 for 10,000-document sites.
