JBoss Allies With Iona

Iona Technologies will offer enterprise customers consulting, training and support for JBoss Group's open-source, Java-based application server effective today.

The pact has been under discussion since late summer and is part of Atlanta-based JBoss Group's strategy of working with partners, JBoss Group spokeswoman Nathalie Mason-Fleury told internetnews.com. It is open-ended.

JBoss Group believes large corporate customers will be more likely to deploy its J2EE technology given Iona's expertise in integrating software and infrastructure from different vendors.

And then there's Iona's customer list, which includes a slew of global 2000 companies, including telecommunications vendors, financial services, aerospace and manufacturing giants.

JBoss Group was founded in 1999 by CEO Marc Fleury and a team of developers. It now boasts and average of 250,000 downloads per month, which it says gives it bragging rights to the most downloaded Java-based appliation server in the industry.

For its part, Iona gains a product that is seeing interest among large customers who may be considering dumping license deals with vendors of proprietary systems.

Dublin-based Iona also becomes a certified JBoss Authorized Service Partner as a result of the deal. The firm will offer support in two ways: bundled with its current enterprise level support agreements for its Orbix and Artix families of integration products; or on a stand-alone basis for JBoss customers.

Iona can tap into the JBoss Group back office support system for a complete coverage for customers. Iona will essentially handle first-level support for the product.
