Nortel Networks, ISS Sign Strategic Agreement

Networking companies Nortel Networks and Internet Security Systems (ISS) Monday formed a strategic agreement in an attempt to streamline platforms and security products.

Under the agreement, the two firms are working to deliver immediate interoperability and product integration between ISS' SAFEsuite network security software and Nortel Networks product lines to provide enhanced enterprise security solutions. ISS' RealSecure intrusion detection system and Nortel's Passport are the first to be bundled as a combined offering to customers. Shipment is slated to begin in December.

"As security risks continue to rise with more critical data residing on the network, implementing adaptive network security technology has become a high priority for our customers," said Ed Pillman, Nortel's vice president and general manager of multimedia enterprise systems.

"With ISS' heritage of technology innovation and Nortel Networks' state-of-the-art product architectures, we will be able to offer our customers the technology and knowledge they need to help enable secure electronic commerce."
