ISS Tightens Network Security

Internet Security Systems (ISS) Wednesday released an updated version of its network security software, Internet Scanner 5.6.

Part of the SAFEsuite product line, Internet Scanner is a vulnerability detection program that automatically scans a network and identifies security weaknesses utilizing a comprehensive database of attacker methods and vulnerability tests.

The program evaluates the security of an entire enterprise network and intranet including all Unix, Windows NT and Windows 95-based machines and devices such as firewalls, Web servers, routers and applications

Version 5.6 features 85 new detection methods for networks, as well as SmartScan, technology designed to learn from previous scans to discover additional vulnerabilities that would otherwise go undetected.

"Today, we are excited to unveil yet another technological breakthrough in security with Internet Scanner's SmartScan technology--a unique, built-in security intelligence capability that learns the security profile of a network and continually utilizes this knowledge to provide invaluable information to customers," said Patrick Taylor, director of marketing for ISS.

Internet Scanner 5.6 is immediately available, with free downloads available at the company Web site. It carries an U.S. suggested price of $2795 for a 30-device license and $4995 for a Class C (254-device) license.
