Adaptive Media announced Envision3D, a Web-based application that is designed to let users view, share and manipulate industrial-sized 3D models in real-time over an intranet or extranet.
Claiming "significant new features and unprecedented functionality" for the product, the vendor said it will allow companies to collaborate more effectively, with corresponding improvements in their product quality and decreased time-to-market.
"All of our partners are looking for a strategic solution that would enable them to collaborate and share 3D information with their design teams and customers in a fast and reliable way," said Mike Pliner, president and CEO, Adaptive Media. "Today's announcement reflects our commitment to lead the industry with innovative products that enable companies to extend their most mission-critical business operations over the Web."
According to the company, Envision3D lets users load complex 3D models between 10 and 20 times faster--and to navigate through them 5 to 10 times faster--than was possible with previous web-enabled solutions. It uses the vendor's own patent-pending 3D streaming technology to transmit models with nearly a million objects and over 67 million triangles, sending them to a user's computer configured with at least 64MB RAM.
