OpenLink Software Inc. Thursday announced the forthcoming release of OpenLink Virtuoso, which allows information from a variety of databases to be viewed and updated over corporate intranets or the Internet.
The system supports a variety of database formats and is designed to interface with SQL servers from Microsoft Corp. and Sybase Inc. It is also operating system-independent and has support for Windows 95, 98 and NT, Linux and all variations of UNIX. Support for the Macintosh, OS400 and 390 and VMS mainframes is planned.
"Information systems challenges have moved beyond the monolithic database or data access middleware related issues. OpenLink Virtuoso demonstrates the leadership position we have taken in relation to the information access challenges before us," said Kindgsley Idehen, president and chief executive officer of OpenLink Software.
A beta version is available for download at OpenLink's Web site. The final version is scheduled to ship Nov. 18.
