Intranets.com Launches in Europe

Intranets.com ended months of anticipation by opening its doors in Europe Wednesday after partnering with GTS Systems and Virginbiz.net.

Intranets.com, currently provides more than 325,000 organizations with free intranets, will let Virginbiz.net and GTS Systems customize intranets for their customers. Financial details were not disclosed.

Partnering with GTS Systems, a provider of e-business and broadband services across Europe, enables Intranets.com to provide intranets for the firm's 100,000 enterprise customers.

The companies' joint offering, GTS Virtual Office, is currently available in the UK and will be rolled out across the rest of Europe over the next two quarters, with German, French and Dutch languages currently planned.

Steve Crummey, president and chief executive officer of Intranets.com, said the global push was important because 60 percent of Web users exist outside of the U.S.

"Our business strategy is to bring a localized version of Intranets.com to the major economic centers of the world," Crummey said.

On the Virginbiz.net side of the deal, Intranet.com will offer small business customers co-branded intranets with localized commerce and content, which will favor Virginbiz.net's 10 percent of the UK's small business market.

No stranger to eastern countries, Intranets.com launched in Japan last February. It has since linked arms with Hitachi Ltd. to deliver free intranets to its small business customers in Japan. Intranets.com allows partners to deliver a branded intranet that brings applications such as document management, hosted e-mail and calendar scheduling to their customers.
