Cap Gemini Pics Dataware Intranet Solution

Cap Gemini, one of the world's largest information technology consultants, Monday chose Dataware Technologies Inc.'s Knowledge Query Server to manage information residing on its worldwide intranet systems.

The Dataware II Knowledge Query Server is a browser-based search tool that give users a single point of entry to multiple enterprise information sources. Companies can tailor the server to search only the resources they desire.

The implementation of the system is scheduled to be complete by the end of the first quarter. The deal is worth $285,000.

Ian Lundberg, Cap Gemini's information technology director, said the system will help it manage the information available to its 38,000 worldwide employees. Presently, the employees are each assigned to one of six corporate intranets.

"To leverage this vast knowledge throughout the company, we looked for a product that could serve as a link between our regional intranets, our global intranet and the Internet and rapidly fulfill requests for information from anywhere in the world," he said.

Lundberg said Cap Gemini's product was picked for its ability to quickly turn respond to information requests.

David Mahoney, Dataware's president and chief executive officer, said the system will give Cap Gemini's employees easy access to the company's global repository of information.

"Our Knowledge Query Server will enable Cap Gemini employees to quickly perform comprehensive searches of the company's intranet data stores and even extend queries to include global searches on the World Wide Web," he said.
