Internet Image Inc. Thursday added support of the Linux operating system to TargetLink ADM.
The Java-based program allows companies to deploy data in the form of software and patches across different computer platforms. Users can adopt the software deployment solutions to their existing environments and platforms.
"Internet Image sees Linux as a significant force in the industry and expects it to emerge as the platform of choice for select environments, particularly as it relates to the Internet service provider and electronic commerce and software development markets.
"We want to give our business partners and customers peace of mind and confidence that if they want to use Linux, Internet Image will be there to support them as we do with other platforms," said Andy Lee, Internet Image's founder and chief technology officer.
The latest statistics from market researcher International Data Corp. suggest Linux's fast adoption rate will continue. By the end of 1998, an estimated 750,000 Linux servers were installed. That represents a 212 percent increase over 1997. A total of 17 percent of new server installations last year ran Linux.
