Intel's Atom processor made a name for itself as one of the most-used CPUs in netbooks, driving the PC category forward thanks to its low power requirements. Now, Intel is poised to revamp Atom yet again, with an eye toward rolling out additional models with advancements like OS tuning, expanded memory support and broadened multicore options. HardwareCentral takes a look.
Intel plans to introduce a series of new Atom processors at the opening of the giant Computex show in Taipei this week, as well as offer a preview a number of other offerings.
But Atom will be the star of the show. The company is broadening the line, expanding to everything from entry-level desktops to super-thin netbooks, thanks to a slew of new products.
