Mountain View, Calif.'s VeriSign Inc. Friday bought certain technology assets of managed infrastructure services provider Telenisus Inc. for $5.8 million.

VeriSign, in additon to being the leading domain name registrar, is a purveyor of digital trust certificates and services. The firm said it will use Rolling Meadows, Ill.-based Telenisus' software to bolster its Consulting Services Group, which offers services that include network architecture and design, implementation, monitoring and security management solutions for enterprises.

VeriSign has been busy of late. Last week, the firm unveiled its Digital Brand Management Services arm, which helps businesses register and protect domain names. It also establishes shortcuts for customers to find a company's products and services from wired or wireless devices.

To help with this, the it purchased 1GlobalPlace Inc., of El Segundo, Calif., and agreed to acquire NameEngine Inc., of New York City, for a total of $11 million in stock and cash. Both firms provide domain name management services.

Friday's announcement also capped off a week in which VeriSign closed its bid Olympia, Wash.'s Illuminet Holdings Inc., which provides network and signaling services to communications carriers.

The combined capabilities and resources of VeriSign and Illuminet include an IP data infrastructure that serves 6.5 million customers and handles more than 5 billion daily connections and transactions and a SS7 network that provides critical call set-up, routing and telephony services to 900 telecommunications companies. That deal was broached in September.
