Avaya Unveils New IP Phones

B2B voice and data networks firm Avaya has added two new IP telephones and a wireless IP telephony product to its suite of communications services.

New Jersey-based Avaya said the new IP-based products would be added to the suite of workplace communications devices it hawks to business and government agencies.

The latest products include the Avaya 4620 IP telephone, which features one-button access to applications and local options menus such as call log, speed dial directory and a WML Browser (supporting XML language).

Avaya said the phone, priced at $495, has a second integrated switched port for a computer connection and an infrared port for integration with PDA and PC applications, to allow users to select and dial a name from their PDA directory.

Avaya is also selling the lower end Avaya 4602 IP phone for companies needing access to basic phone features for entry-level staff positions, hallways, lobbies, and other common work areas.

The company also announced the launch of the Avaya Wireless IP Telephone software, using technology from SpectraLink . It is styled as a 2.4GHz, 802.11b-compliant system that operates over an Avaya wireless Local Area Network (LAN) or other standards-based wireless LAN to deliver IP Telephony on a wireless voice and data network.

It promises handsets that provide mobile workers with access to conference calling, call forward and transfer, multiple line appearances and caller ID. The company said the software consists of gateways and/or servers that can support up to 16 handsets and eight simultaneous calls.

Other product releases from Avaya include the 2420 digital telephone, the Avaya EU24 Button Expansion Module, the Avaya IP Softphone. All the IP desktop phones connect to an IP network with a single 10/100 BaseT Ethernet LAN connection and include support for power over Ethernet LAN technology.
