Blue Coat this week announced the acquisition of privately-held Solera Networks in an effort to bolster its Big Data security intelligence capabilities for malware and threat detection.
Sasi Murthy, senior director Product Marketing at Blue Coat, told eSecurity Planet that financial terms of the deal are not being publicly disclosed.
Solera had raised $20 million in funding from Intel Capital, Allegis Capital, Signal Peak Ventures and Trident Capital in January of 2012. Blue Coat itself was taken private in early 2012 as part of a $1.3 billion deal led by private equity firm Thoma Bravo.
The intention is to keep Solera's employees on board at Blue Coat, Murthy noted.
"The Solera team is highly innovative and has brought to market a solution that bridges a gap in the industry today," Murthy said. "We want to keep the team and innovative spirit thriving in the company, so they continue to advance state-of-the-art security."
