Lycos Inc. Friday added major Japanese media company Kadokawa Shoten Publishing Co. Ltd. to its Lycos Japan business venture, bringing the giant $32 million in financing.

Lycos Japan continues to grow in content, services and users. Tripod Japan was launched earlier this week, registering more than 10,000 users in the first four days. Tripod.com sites provide an array of top-notch home page publishing tools, hosting services and benefits for everyone from beginners to experienced Web masters.

Tripod Europe is now the top community site in Europe, signing up more than 600,000 registered members in just 10 months of operation, and Tripod Korea registered 80,000 members in its first 10 days. In addition to the Tripod launch, Lycos Japan has also added a series of new content providers, including Auto Center, providing users with access to vehicle specifications and information.

"With the launch of Tripod Japan and the addition of Kadokawa, a cutting edge Japanese media company, to the partnership, Lycos Japan is now uniquely positioned to lead the market," said Bob Davis, president and chief executive officer of Lycos (LCOS).
