Subscribers to AT&T's high-speed cable Internet access are getting five months of free service as a result of complaints lodged following persistent problems.
According to published reports, approximately 1,000 of TCI@Home's customers in Cupertino, Milpita, Los Gatos, San Mateo, Belmont and San Carlos, Calif. were victims of interrupted service, decreased speed and intermittent outages since early May.
An AT&T spokesman said the company is searching to find the reason for the problems.
Andrew Johnson of AT&T Broadband and Internet Services told the San Jose Mercury News said the company will give all customers in the affected areas free service through Sept. 30, as well as credits for the fees they paid in May and June. Priced at almost $40 per month per customer, total loss would be approximately $200,000.
