Cable & Wireless Rolls Out Virtual ISP Service

Cable & Wireless Tuesday debuted its virtual Internet service provider offering, a turnkey solution that allows ISP business to sell access using that company's resources.

ISPs can use Cable & Wireless' backbone and network maintenance capabilities through the service, but the products are offered under the ISP's name.

"Our Virtual ISP service is a private label Internet service that easily and quickly opens the doors for businesses to become Internet Service Providers," said Art Medici, Cable & Wireless' senior vice president of marketing.

"With Virtual ISP, our customers leverage our Tier 1, nationwide network and supporting services, enabling them to focus on their core business activities -- advertising, content and marketing."

Users will also have access to Cable & Wireless' billing, Web site maintenance, e-mail and news services, among other offerings.

The company is calling the new Virtual ISP a "key component" of its new IP and data service strategy, and says it will compliment its news DSL, VPN and Web hosting offerings.

Cable & Wireless' (CWP) restructuring project was launched in November of last year in both Europe and North America.
