Covad Takes High-Speed Services to Cleveland

National broadband service provider Covad Communications Co. Thursday announced plans to expand to Cleveland, Ohio.

Ultimately Covad's (COVD) DSL services will be made available to more than 65,000 businesses and 580,000 consumers in the Cleveland area.

Covad deploys DSL services through both local and national Internet service providers nationwide. Cleveland residents can go to Covad's Web site to select the ISP of their choice.

Tom Wagner, Covad president and general manager, said Cleveland is important to Covad's high-speed services because it's a Web-savvy population with a large business community.

"As a frequent representative on 'top wired cities' lists, including Yahoo Internet Life, we expect many Cleveland residents and businesses will convert from dial-up access to Covad DSL," Wagner said.

Covad's Cleveland broadband launch follows on the heels of its recent achievement of installing more than 100,000 DSL lines nationwide. The DSL milestone represents a 75 percent growth rate since Covad first established high-speed wired services at the end of last year.
