Exodus Communications Inc., a provider of Internet server hosting and management solutions, today announced that it signed a $20 million agreement with Qwest Communications International Inc. to expand the capacity of its nationwide backbone.
Terms of the agreement call for Qwest to provide its OC-12 circuits between several Exodus Internet Data Centers. The company said this will be of added value to Exodus' currently redundant OC-3 and DS-3 network. Qwest is also to benefit from Exodus' technology in the complex data and multimedia sector.
The Exodus Internet Data Centers are currently located in San Francisco(2), Los Angeles, New York, Washington, D.C. and Seattle metro areas, with a server hosting facility in London. Another Center is later planned for Boston.
Exodus said that with Quest's additional circuits, its capacity will be significantly expanded, a move necessary to support the traffic seen between its network and the Internet, which it said has grown to over 1.5 gigabits per second.
Earlier in the week Qwest announced it signed two broadband capacity agreements totaling $85 million with Digital Broadcast Network Corp. and FaciliCom International.
