Italian ISP Chooses Cisco

Italian Internet Service Provider ITnet S.p.A. and network equipment vendor Cisco Systems, Inc. today announced they will collaborate to offer dial access services to business customers in Italy.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

With a Cisco Powered Network, ITnet will offer customers secure and high-performance Internet services, including intelligent broadband IP networking designed to deliver enhanced connectivity and network-based applications, the companies said.

"Cisco shares our vision that the IP network is the foundation for delivering intelligent business solutions, providing our customers with strategic competitive advantages," said Joy Marino, president of ITnet. "By working with a leader such as Cisco, we can bring advanced, differentiated networking solutions to market quickly."

Under terms of the agreement, ITnet will provide services based predominantly on Cisco equipment and software. The company will also use the Cisco Powered Network logo to brand its services and marketing support materials.

In what has been a busy week for Cisco, the networking equipment leader also announced Tuesday strong second-quarter results and a stock split set for September 15. On Wednesday the company dismissed a patent infringement suit brought against it by Lucent Technologies Inc. as a marketing tactic.

Cisco also entered into an alliance this week with PeopleSoft Inc. aimed at improving the flow of critical PeopleSoft business data on Cisco networks.

The company's stock (NASDAQ:CSCO) continued its strong showing on Wall Street today, climbing to 99 3/8, up over two points on the day.
