Epoch Expands DSL Coverage

Privately-held ISP Epoch Internet announced it is adding more Southern California service areas for its TSpeed Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) Internet access service.

Los Angeles County and Orange County cities new to Epoch's service area include Artesia, El Segundo, Huntington Beach, Long Beach, North Hollywood, Orange, Pasadena, Redondo, Reseda, Rolling Hills, Sherman Oaks, Torrance, Slater, South Pasadena, and West Los Angeles. Cities already introduced to Epoch's TSpeed service include Anaheim, Beverly Hills, Burbank, Canoga Park, Gardena, Huntington Park, Los Angeles, and Van Nuys, the company said.

TSpeed delivers dedicated Internet access at scalable speeds from 144 Kbps to 1.5 Mbps (comparable to T-1 access)--reportedly up to 50 times faster than typical dial-up connections using modems and 10 times faster than ISDN service.

TSpeed costs begin at $35 per seat, the firm said, or users can select unlimited-user cap rates, which range from $105 to $210. Additional local Exchange Carrier (LEC) fees start at $90.

Epoch said the service is aimed at small- to medium-sized businesses that increasingly rely upon Internet connections for e-mail and other mission-critical business activities, and those that would benefit greatly from dedicated access, but previously could not justify the expense of ISDN or T-1 connections.

Founded in 1994, Epoch offers high-speed, dedicated access products (DSL, 56 Kbps to T-3) and analog dial-up access coast-to-coast from more than 180 Points of Presence (POPs). A full service solutions provider, Epoch also provides Web site and e-mail hosting; server co-location; firewalls and Virtual Private Networks; e-commerce solutions; and various brandable Internet services for telecommunications companies.
