Internet service provider MindSpring Enterprises, Inc. today said it completed building an Internet Point of Presence (POP) in Phoenix, Arizona.
The Atlanta-based ISP said it has begun to transfer customers to the POP from a third-party network it used for its Valley users. The new POP uses 3Com USRobotics networking equipment and supports the new v.90 protocol for 56K modem connections, according to MindSpring.
In January MindSpring purchased Web hosting company Internet Direct of Phoenix. It said it plans to extend its Phoenix operations to include a call center slated for a third quarter launch later this year.
MindSpring initially rolled out ISP service to Phoenix in 1996, with its acquisition of the Pipeline and InterRamp consumer dial-up subscribers of PSINet, Inc.
