Internet Ventures Extends Reach

Internet service provider Internet Ventures Inc. (IVI) continued its western expansion through acquisitions of two ISPs in Colorado and Oregon.

In separate agreements, the firm acquired Durango, Colo.-based Frontier Internet, which boasts 3,800 subscribers, and the 1,900-subscriber Budget Internet, located in Grants Pass, Ore. IVI's overall subscription base is now expected to be more than 20,000. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The acquisition of Frontier Internet marks IVI's third entry in Colorado. IVI already has two affiliates in Grand Junction: Information Technologies International and Western Internet Connections.

Budget Internet is also IVI's third affiliate in Oregon. Both Infostructure in Ashland and Medford Internet in Medford joined the IVI fold in 1997.

"These agreements are significant for several reasons," said Don Janke, president of IVI. "By acquiring Frontier Internet and Budget Internet, we are able to further establish our dominance in the Western slope of Colorado and in southwestern Oregon. Ultimately, our goal is to bring IVI's full range of service to both areas, offering high-speed PeRKInet in addition to traditional dial-up service."

Internet Ventures Inc. said it offers dial-up and high-speed Internet Access services to non-urban markets with populations of less than 500,000. It currently services 15,000 dial-up subscribers in 11 communities in California, Oregon, Colorado, Idaho and Washington.
