SoftNet Offers Cable Internet Access in Puerto Rico

ISP Channel, a division of SoftNet Systems Inc., announced Monday it entered into an agreement with Teleponce's TPC Connect to provide high-speed cable Internet access to Teleponce's customers in Ponce, Puerto Rico.

The deal represents the first high-speed cable Internet access to Puerto Rico, the companies said. The ISP Channel offers an end-to-end high speed Internet-over-cable access system that will reach approximately 125,000 homes in Ponce.

"ISP Channel's offering represents the first affordable high- speed service available in our market and gives consumers a welcome choice in selecting Internet access service," said Hector Gonzales, president of Teleponce Cable TV and its affiliate TPC Connect.

"This opportunity gives us a foundation to grow our bi-lingual marketing, sales, technical support and local content initiatives," said Lawrence Brilliant, SoftNet Systems president and chief executive officer.

He also said that the company soon plans on launching a bi-lingual version of ISP Channel's Web site, LOCALE. It offers a platform of tools and national content partners, designed to empower the local community, merchants, education and local government to build online communities and promote local e-commerce.
