Cable Internet service Road Runner said Monday it ended 1998 with 180,000 customers and is currently adding more than 4,000 subscribers each week.
"The momentum just keeps building," said Carl Rossetti, Road Runner's interim chief executive officer.
However, Rossetti said acquiring customers is only part of the challenge.
The service's biggest cluster of subscribers lies in the Northeast region. San Diego, Calif. is the largest single city deployment, with 16,500 customers. Road Runner's highest penetration is in Portland, Maine, where 12.23 percent of cable homes are subscribers.
Road Runner is currently available to more than 7 million homes with plans to bring it to more than 27 million across the country in the works.
