Ramp's technology allows home users to have shared Internet access to more than one computer. Households with only one phone line can have more than one computer connected to the Internet simultaneously.
Mary E. Walker, general manager of IBM Home Networking, said the deal will make it easier for consumers to enjoy all the Internet has to offer.
"One of our goals is to make it simple for consumers to tap into the potential of the Internet and allow them to easily and inexpensively share multiple Internet connections," she said.
"Everyone in the family will be able to access the Internet simultaneously without adding extra modems and phone lines. It's exciting to see IBM delivering the Internet sharing technology we developed for small businesses and remote offices into the consumer and home office market," he said.
