An early morning AT&T (NYSE: T) 3G network outage that interrupted wireless data services for Northeast-based subscribers was resolved by noon today and did not impact voice communications.
The wireless carrier said the network downtime event was due to a routing problem between the Internet and wireless devices, and not related to recent complaints about 3G connectivity with the new iPhone.
"It had nothing to do with that," Mark Siegel, an AT&T communications spokesperson, told InternetNews.com, adding the outage impacted only data services on both 3G and 2G networks in the Northeast area.
AT&T said it could not provide the number of subscribers impacted by the nearly 12-hour network glitch.

"It's impossible for us to provide that and we don't provide subscriber figures for competitive reasons," said Siegel.
AT&T and Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) have been under fire for the past several weeks as iPhone users claim the newest Apple handset isn't working well on the carrier's 3G network.
In late August Apple sought to filed quell some of the problems with a fix for 3G performance issues.
The issue prompted two Alabama residents to file a potential class action suit in a US District Court against Apple claiming that marketing promises of faster data services and better network connectivity were not delivered.
