Ballmer: Windows 7 Slates on the Way

Anyone who listens to Steve Ballmer talk these days would be hard-pressed to deny that he's found religion about the cloud. In an emphatic keynote address at Microsoft's annual Worldwide Partner Conference, Ballmer reiterated his commitment that the company is "all in" on cloud computing, and promised that a host of new devices of various sizes, prices and form factors would hit the market this year sporting Windows 7.

Ballmer's talk comes amid several announcements from Microsoft at the show, including the launch of an in-house extension for Azure and the next iteration of the Intune, a remote, cloud-based management service. Enterprise Mobile Today has the details.

WASHINGTON -- Over the next year, Microsoft plans to seed Windows 7 across a raft of new slate computers, handsets and devices of other form factors as it continues an aggressive push to encourage adoption of its latest operating system.

"This year, one of the most important things that we will do in the smart device category is really push forward with Windows 7-based slates and with Windows 7 phones. This is a terribly important area for us," Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said in a keynote address Monday morning at the company's annual Worldwide Partner Conference.
