Catching the BreezeNET

Alvarion Ltd. of Tel-Aviv, Israel, has launched the BreezeNET DS.5800, an indoor/outdoor wireless bridging system for point-to-point and point-to-multipoint connections. It uses the unlicensed 5.8GHz band so it will not cause interference with existing Wi-Fi networks using the 2.4GHz band.
The DS.5800 has a range of up to 30 miles with a data rate of 11Mbps. It is available with built in antennas and uses power over Ethernet to get its electrical supply. It also has built in lightning protection.
Alvarion believes the unit will bring in an overall cost savings because of easy installation and because it's cheaper than similar solutions. It supports SNMP management for remote configuration.
The DS.5800 is available as either a base unit ($2,650 with high gain 21dBi antenna, $2,595 without) or remote bridge ($2,345 with antenna, $2,295 without). Both should be available by mid-June.
